CSM Sweeps Chesapeake College

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks baseball team took their weekend doubleheader versus the Chesapeake College Skipjacks on April 2. CSM won Game 1 by a score of 6-5 and Game 2 by a score of 9-6.

 

Game 1

The Hawks trailed 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but then scored five runs to take a 6-5 lead they would hold onto the rest of the way.

Drew Colaizzi finished 2-3 at the plate with a key two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth which led to an error by the Chesapeake center fielder that allowed Colaizzi to get to third base. Jaden Hendricks then pinch-ran for Colaizzi and scored on a passed ball by Chesapeake to score CSM's sixth run of the game.

Hunter Rose took over for the final inning, striking out a batter and earning his first save of the season.

Roy Tayman picked up his second win of the season after pitching six innings. He allowed only one earned run on eight hits, two walks, and tied his season-high of eight strikeouts.

Game 2

Andrew Leginze continued his hot start to the season, going 3-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a walk. He also racked up another win on the mound, striking out two batters over 4.1 innings to move his record to 3-0.

Bradley Hill and Layne Freese each had two RBIs for the Hawks. Freese hit a two run-home run in the bottom of the fourth inning - his first of the season - while Hill went 2-4 and scored two runs.

Mason Stine and Jaden Hendricks logged their first hits of the season; Hendricks went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Stine went 1-1 with an RBI and one run scored.

Tariq Johnson, Travis Bradley, and Jaden Gallagher came on in relief for the Hawks, each recording a strikeout with Gallagher earning the save.
