Catamounts Softball Captures Region 20 Crown Again

Potomac State won the Region 20 softball championship this past weekend at the host of the tournament, CCBC Catonsville. Three other teams remained for double elimination play at the start of Thursday's action including: Hagerstown Community College, Chesapeake, and College of Southern Maryland.

 

In game one the Catamounts defeated Hagerstown 8-0 in 5 innings.

Potomac State picked up right where they left off, pounding out 11 hits and allowing Abby Peace to do what she does best. Peace went all 5 innings allowing only 1 hit and striking out 12. At the plate, Peace hit 2 homeruns and had 3 RBIs. Alexis Bailey hit her first homerun of many on the weekend and had 4 RBIs. Alexa Shoemaker went 2-3, had 1 run and an RBI.

 

In game two the Catamounts defeated Chesapeake 9-0 in 5 innings.

Peace started game two in the circle and went all 5 innings, and again only allowed 1 hit, struckout 12 and 0 walks. Peace and Shoemaker combined for 2 hits, 4 runs and each doubled in the game. Peace and Ashley Joll each had 2 RBIs. Alexis Bailey hit 2 more homeruns and had 5 RBIs. 

 

In a championship game that was never in doubt, the Catamounts defeated Hagerstown 12-3 in 7 innings.

In the circle once again was Peace, who went all 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 11. The bats were on fire in the championship game, with the Catamounts crushing 17 hits. Grace Walsh went 4-5 and hit for the cycle in her first 4 at bats. Walsh's first at bat of the game, she tripled followed by a single, homerun, and finishing with a double and 2 RBIs on the day. Shoemaker, Bailey, and Courtney Adams also doubled in the game. Mia Kincaid homered and had 2 RBIs. Bailey also hit her fourth homerun of the tournament and had 3 RBIs. Other RBIs in the contest were contributed by Shoemaker and Adams.
