Owls Pick Up Another Road Win After Huge Day From Rosales, Shutout Chesapeake College 6-0

Playing in their second road game in just three days, the Prince George's men's soccer team took the field against Chesapeake College on Tuesday, September 28th looking to build upon their first win of the season against Westmoreland two days prior.  The Owls stayed hot behind their sophomore captain Miguel Rosales (Fairmont Heights, MD) as he scored five unanswered goals for his team as part of a 6-0 shutout over the Skipjacks. Chesapeake fell to 0-6 on the season with the loss while Prince George's improved to 2-4 just ahead of their matchup against nationally ranked CCBC Essex on Thursday, September 30th.

Rosales, who was coming off a three-goal game against the Wolfpack, wasted little time picking up where he left off as he put two shots past Chesapeake's keeper within the first 25 minutes of play to give his team a 2-0 lead. The Owls slowed down the game after taking the lead, focusing more on possessing the ball and making the easier passes which resulted in an improved defense from the Owls who held Chesapeake to only 4 shots compared to Prince George's 18 in the first half. Keeper Axel Vargas (Temple Hills, MD) enjoyed a rare slow first half in goal as the Owls didn't allow a single shot on frame through the first 45 minutes

Rosales came out of halftime determined to put the game away early as he strung together three straight goals in a span of just over four minutes, the final coming in just the 58th minute to take a commanding 5-0 lead to essentially seal the victory for the Owls. Freshmen Saul Viera (Hyattsville, MD) and Juan Lainez-Cardenas (Riverdale, MD) assisted on Rosales's fourth and fifth goals of the day, respectively.

Prince George's continued to challenge the Skipjacks defense as the Owls created 6 corner kick opportunities in the second half alone, one of which the Owls used to create an advantage of a distracted Chesapeake defense. Freshman David Gutierrez (Riverdale, MD) played a simple ball into Jonathan Diaz (Oxon Hill, MD) in the 78th minute from the corner before Diaz drove in to pull the Skipjacks defenders out of the box before playing a perfectly placed cross to teammate Franklin Urrutia (Bladensburg, MD), who quickly headed the ball past the keeper to give the Owls their final goal of the contest. Prince George's defense held strong in the closing minutes, giving Vargas his first shutout of the season after typically seeing plenty of action defending his goal in the Owls previous matchups. Vargas earned his first shutout of the season in the Owls 6-0 victory.

A quick turnaround will be needed by Coach Mansaray and his squad when the Owls return home to host the NJCAA Division II nationally ranked CCBC Essex Knights in Largo, MD on Thursday, September 30th at 5 o'clock.
