Cecil Cruises Past Chesapeake in Game One

NORTH EAST, Md. - A red-hot performance from Cecil in Saturday's opening contest led to a 13-3 mercy rule victory over the Chesapeake Skipjacks.

Things did not start off well for the Seahawks, as defensive miscues allowed Chesapeake to score three runs in the first with two outs. After Cecil stopped the bleeding, they went on to score a pair of their own to trail by one after the opening frame.

The Seahawks tapped into the long ball for offense through the middle innings. A three-run blast by Garrett Worthington put Cecil on top 5-3. The power surge continued in the fourth, as Davis Jenkins (1-RBI) and Patrick O'Brien (3-RBI) both went yard to boost the Seahawks efforts. A two-RBI double via Lane Weismiller completed a six-run frame for Cecil.

After blanking Chesapeake offense in the fifth, the Seahawks got right back to work in the bottom of the inning. A walk and a doubled scored one to put Chesapeake on ropes, but the visitors responded with a strikeout of the next batter. Their survival was short lived, as Nate Ewing's double in the next at-bat scored O'Brien to sink the Skipjacks.

O'Brien finished game one 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and a triple short of the cycle. Ewing collected three hits while Worthington ended up with two. Five other Seahawks earned one hit each.

The Seahawks move to 5-10 (1-0 Region 20) after the win.
