Lady Owls Suffer First Loss Of Season Against Chesapeake

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball program dropped their first game of the year to Chesapeake College on Monday afternoon by a final score of 72-66. The #7 ranked Owls allowed 29 points in the first quarter as they found themselves playing from behind for a majority of the game. Prince George's outscored the Skipjacks 17-13 in the second period to cut into Chesapeake's lead but entered halftime down 37-42.

Chesapeake stretched their lead to 9 again in the third period before Prince George's pieced together a 12-0 run as the Owls took control 51-48 with less than two minutes in the quarter. The Skipjacks finished the period on top, 54-51 and while the Owls came to within two in the final stretch, Prince George's was unable to regain control for good as the Skipjacks upset the Owls.

The loss is the first for the program since last year's appearance in the National Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota.

Tori Tolson earned her third double-double of the year in the loss with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Janiah Williams (18), Vanessa Schwarzmann (12), and Alicia Jones (10) all finished in double digit scoring with Williams just missing out on a double-double of her own with 9 boards.

The Owls have the remainder of the week off before another tough road challenge on Saturday when they travel to take on undefeated CCBC Essex who is currently ranked #3 in NJCAA Division 2.
