Owls Close Out Regular Season With 9-0 Shutout Over Chesapeake

A week removed from a narrow 2-1 loss to division I opponent Harford Community College, the Owls came out hungry against Chesapeake College on Thursday night. Prince George's was dominant on both sides of the ball from start to finish in a 9-0 victory which featured four goals by freshman Chris Gbakinro.

Gbakinro began the scoring for Prince George's in the 14th minute with an assist from Jorge Santacruz. 7 minutes later Francis Ogbankwa recorded his seventh goal of the year and Gbakinro grew the lead to three with his second goal of the day just before halftime. Goalkeeper Bilal Odeh replaced starter Daniel Villatoro-Ramos in net at the break for his third appearance on the season.

The Owls didn't let up in the second half as three goals were rattled off within a 4-minute stretch, the first by Samuel Reyes before back-to-back scores from Gbakinro put the Owls in front, 6-0. Ogbankwa recorded two more goals down the stretch while freshman Nathan Phoba picked up his first of the season for Prince George's to finish on top 9-0 at the final whistle.

The Owls offense was firing on all cylinders during the win while the defense didn't miss a beat either, as Prince George's held the Skipjacks without a single shot during the contest. Prince George's 9 goals nearly doubled their previous single game season high, a 5-0 shutout over Carroll in the Owls first victory of the season.

The Owls finish the regular season out with a 6-7 overall record and 1-1 in Region 20 Division 3 play ahead of postseason play. Prince George's awaits their opponent heading into the Region tournament next week hosted by Anne Arundel Community College.
