Maryland JUCO Names March Student Athletes of the Month
BALTIMORE (April 17, 2018) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced that it has selected Joseph Nahas (baseball), William Harrison (men’s lacrosse), Rachel Durham (softball), Tiffany Warnick (indoor track & field) and Alexis Corbitt-Fennekohl (women’s lacrosse) as its Student Athletes of the Month for March 2018.
Nahas (Chesapeake College | Marion Catholic) was 5-0 in five starts in March, including three complete games. The righty struck out 67 hitters against just 11 walks and allowed only 17 hits in 32 innings pitched. Nahas had three games with 10 or more strikeouts: March 10 vs. Anne Arundel Community College (21), March 16 vs. Rockland Community College (13) and March 30 vs. Harford Community College (17)
Harrison (Anne Arundel Community College | Lake Mary) was a huge part of the Riverhawks men’s lacrosse team going 6-1 in March. The sophomore finished the month with a 5.47 goals against average, 67 total saves and a 69.1 save percentage. Harrison made double digit four times in the month: March 14 vs. Delaware Tech (12), March 17 vs. Potomac State (13), March 28 vs. Howard (15) and March 31 vs. Harford (16), while his team went 3-1 in those games.
Durham (Cecil College | Appoquinmink) helped lead the Seahawks to a 6-0 conference record, finishing the month with a slash line of .647/.684/.912. Eight of her 22 hits went for extra bases (seven doubles, one triple), while she collected 12 RBIs and did not strikeout in 37 plate appearances. The freshman also posted a .939 fielding percentage at second base, committing just two errors in 33 total chances.
Warnick (Hagerstown Community College) finished 7th in the Pentathlon at the 2018 NJCAA Indoor National Track and Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas. She scored a school-record 2,888 points and is the first in Hagerstown’s history to place in the pentathlon. Warnick finished fourth in the 800 meter run and sixth in the high jump.
Corbitt-Fennekohl (CCBC Essex | Loch Raven) tallied 19 goals (34 shots on goal) in five games in March, collected 11 ground balls and 19 draw controls. In three games against nationally ranked Anne Arundel, Howard and Harford, she had 13 goals, 15 draw controls and seven ground balls. Corbitt-Fennekohl currently leads the nation in goals scored (51), points (62), shots (87) and draw controls (48).
