Men’s Basketball Routs Saint Mary’s College of Maryland At Home

Chesapeake College men's basketball dominated Saint Mary's College of Maryland Junior Varsity squad on Monday night, November 25th by a final score of 103-59. With the win, the Skipjacks improve to 6-2 on the season including 0-1 in Maryland JUCO play. Coming off a tough loss at home against Montgomery College Friday night which saw the Skipjacks lose a 15 point lead in the second half, Chesapeake responded with a statement win which saw them lead for all but 58 seconds of play throughout the contest.

After a sluggish start, the Skipjacks began to string together a few quick baskets to build a 12 point cushion midway through the first period to go up 28-16. St. Mary's Seahawks were able to put together a 7-0 run in response to chip away at the lead but the Skipjacks responded with a 11-0 point run themselves to keep the pressure on their defense. St. Mary's again closed the gap to trail by only 10 as the Skipjacks went into halftime leading 47-37. Sophomore guard Damon Gomer led the Skipjacks in scoring at the break with 12 points to go along with 6 rebounds.

Chesapeake came out aggressive in the second half and poured in 13 unanswered points to essentially put the game out of reach for the Seahawks. The Skipjacks refused to let up, outscoring St. Mary's 56-22 in the second half to nearly record more points in the second half alone than the Seahawks the entire game (59) to secure the 103-59 victory. Freshman Joey Adams led the Skipjacks with 17 points off the bench while fellow freshman Kevin Hubbard contributed 9 points and 9 rebounds on 4-5 shooting. The Skipjacks collectively shot a highly efficient 50 percent from the floor and improved upon their free throw percentage in the big team win with four total Skipjacks scoring in double digits.

Chesapeake will enjoy a week off over the holiday before returning home to face conference opponent CCBC Catonsville in Skipjack Arena on Monday, December 2nd. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 pm.
