Chesapeake Commands & Conquers At Home

WYE MILLS, MD - On the afternoon of November 10th at 5:00 p.m., the men of Chesapeake College Basketball hosted their very first home game of the 2021-2022 season against the Delaware Tech Roadrunners. After an incredible display of skill and strength in mentality on the court, the Skipjacks ultimately came out on top with a final score of 68-96. The Tuesday event promptly began as scheduled, commencing with the playing of the national anthem, followed by the announcement of the starting lineups.

As the official tipoff of the game was initiated, so was the energy being exuded by both the players and the slew of supporters in the stands, for the familiar sense of normalcy in the air. Being that the pandemic prohibited the team's ability to have a 2020-2021 season, it was obvious that to all in attendance that the mandatory mask policy was an incredibly small price to pay for the invaluable opportunity to be together in person once again in Skipjack Arena, all for the beloved game of basketball.

The Skipjacks most definitely made use of the visceral excitement and momentum in the air and displayed their impressive ability to manage a strong offensive front while putting just as much pressure into maintaining a steady defensive core on the court in an effective manner. Often making their tuned-in and powerhouse display of diverse skillset look practically effortless from the stands.

The top scorers of Tuesday's gameplay were: #11 Mahzi Thames with a leading total of 27-points along with 7 assists, followed by #22 Craig Turner with a strong 24-point showing, and #5 JayShawn Freeman coming in off the bench and capitalizing on his appearance on the court by earning the Skipjack's a competitive 16-points to add to the books. #2 Jabraun Shingler also played a significant role in the team's offensive drive earning 7 solid rebounds to show for his work on the court. All in all, the entirety of the athletic event's duration it became incredibly evident to the crowd that Chesapeake had come out with the foresight and fruition to put on quite a competitive show for their audience, and they weren't at all willing to settle for anything less than success by the time the buzzer rang to signal the game's finale.

The team will take the following day to recuperate and reset for their next scheduled game to be played this Thursday vs St. Mary's College of MD. The game will once again be hosted at Chesapeake College with a start time of 5:00 p.m. The Skipjacks are anticipating yet another memorable evening to be experienced in Wye Mills, MD.
