Skipjacks Battle With The Bears

WYE MILLS, MD - The men of Chesapeake basketball took on undefeated opponent, the Harcum Bears, on their home court the evening of November 18th for one of their most mentally and physically demanding face offs of the 2021-2022 season thus far. To say that the atmosphere within the gymnasium was invigorating as a whole, would be a gross understatement.

While there were surely spectators who'd have counted out the Skipjacks from the competition based merely on size alone, the home team was not willing to accept any negative predispoitions or assumptions made, and were wholeheartedly determined to let their skill and strategy alone speak for itself until the final buzzer signaled the official end of the event.

Nevertheless, Chesapeake brought out a powerful, purposeful energy to the game, making it incredibly clear that while being very aware that they might be considered the "underdog" of the competition amongst those  looking merely at conference standings alone, that they were not to be counted out before they had the chance to preform. Instead of falling into the trap of getting into their own heads before game time, they made a decision as a team to come out and play their game, no exceptions.

#5 JayShaun Freeman came out strong offensively and remained as such earning a whopping 21 points for the home team against the Bears. Followed closely behind by sophomore #2 Jabraun Shingler with 17 points on the board. The Skipjacks Team statistics as a whole also served as another clear depiction of just how dedicated the Skipjack's were to leave everything that they had in them on the court - successfully earning themselves a 71.9% FTM-A, as well as 22 OREB to show for their passion on the court.

With 1:08 remaining in the final half of the game, a technical foul was called on the Bears, followed by an ejection of a Harcum player. Skipjacks #11 Mahzi Thames was given 4 penalty shots, sinking 3/4 - bringing the score to only a 4 point difference. Despite Chesapeake's ultimate fall to the Bears with an offical final result of 78-82, it was overall evident that the excellence and dedication displayed by the home team of Chesapeake College was in no way walking away with a "loss" worthy of hanging their hats on with all things considered.

Chesapeake men's basketball is scheduled to take on their next upcoming opponent, Raritan Valley, once again in their very own Skipjack Arena this coming Saturday, November 20th at 2:00 PM.
