Chesapeake Conquers Cheyney On The Court

WYE MILLS, MD - Skipjacks men's basketball tipped off yet again in Skipjack Arena on January 24th at 7:00 p.m., taking on Cheyney University of PA. In the end, Chesapeake managed to redeem control of the court resulting in a final score of 98-74, Skipjacks.

Despite a slow start to the first half, the Skipjacks quickly found their footing. With 4:30 to go in the half, Chesapeake officially took the lead, bringing the score to 27-26. From that moment forward, Chesapeake was on a positive trajectory up until the very end of the night. By the end of the first half, the Skipjacks had lengthened their lead to 47-35.

While knowingly in a favorable position, the home team effectively utilized their 15-minute halftime to regroup refresh, and return to the court ready to defend their lead in the final half still ahead. By the final 10:00-minute-mark of the game, Chesapeake had officially managed to lengthen their lead over Cheyney to a stable 26 point difference.

Leaderboard standouts of the evening were led by #4 JayShaun Freeman with an astounding 26 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals for the night. Followed by teammate #22 Craig Turner who was a strong offensive contender on the court, scoring a commendable 21 points. Trailing Turner by a single point was #11 Mahzi Thames, who also effectively used his time on the court to solidify 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists of his own to add to the impressive well-earned turnaround displayed by the home team. 

Chesapeake will return to Skipjack Arena on Friday, January 28th to face the Harford Fighting Owls for a set tip-off time of 7:00 p.m.
