Skipjacks Prevail Over Southern MD Hawks

WYE MILLS, MD - On Friday evening, the NJCAA's Division II #5 ranked Chesapeake men's basketball set out on on an oportunity to compete against the College of Southern MD Hawks on their home court. By the end of the event, the Skipjacks,pulled through and came away rewarded with an 80-75 win, placing their new record at a 19-1 season, and 8-0 in the region!

The first half was a clear glimpse into the intensity to come throughout the enirety of the game, as it was a clear competitive nailbiter to the very finish. The 2 teams battled tirelessly to defend and uphold control on either sides of the court, making the dynamic both high-paced and urgent. Upon reaching the halfway point of the battle, the Skipjacks were standing at a favorable 5-points ahead of the Hawks at 36-31.

The final 20:00 minutes on the clock would each be just as critical as the next. Each minute that passed making the magnitude of each decision even more critical. Ultimately, Chesapeake finished the night in a fiercly devoted fashion that further continued the positive trajectory that this season has been throughout their season thus far. 

Powerful contributors on the court for the Skipjacks were driven by #11 Mahzi Thames who racked up an insatiable 24 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals for the home team. Following Thames' lead was #4 DJ Earl who was also a standout with an outstanding 18 points and 11 rebounds in total. #5 JayShaun Freeman played quite an immense role of his own collecting a commendable combination of 16 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. #4 Jabraun Shingler from the reserves came to play under the unparalleled pressure, going 7-8 on the free throw line, as well as claiming 13 points for Chesapeake to add to their combined 80. 

In the end, the Skipjacks displayed yet another example of their combined faith, fortitude, and follow-through as they secured yet another win under their belts over the Hawks. 

Chesapeake men's basketball will take the court next up this coming Monday, Feburary 14th, when they will be traveling to Pennsylvania to face off to Cheyney University of PA at 7:30 PM.
