Skipjacks Close Out 2023 With Win

The Chesapeake College men's basketball team took to Skipjack Arena one final time for 2023 as they hosted Virginia Peninsula Community College on Tuesday evening, December 19^th where the Skipjacks improved to 5-8 on the season following a 54-45 victory over the Gators.

Scoring was again few and far between in the first half as Chesapeake entered the break with a 4-point lead at just 20-16. There were only four scorers for the Skipjacks at the half as Andre Stewart led the way with 7 points while also grabbing 5 boards. Things opened in the second half for both teams as Chesapeake rolled to a game-high lead of 18 points with 8 minutes remaining following a 17-4 put the Skipjacks in front, 47-29.

Virginia Peninsula would pull to within 6 with 2:31 left but Chesapeake scored on their next three possessions while holding the Gators scoreless to put some distance between the two programs as time ticked away. Four different Skipjacks finished in double figures in the victory, led by Armani Martin and Josh Rivers with 12. Stewart and Azim Sana weren't far behind with 10 apiece, with the latter recording a double-double behind 17 rebounds.

The Skipjacks have the next couple of weeks off before they return to action in the New Year on the road against Bryant & Stratton (VA) on Saturday, January 6^th.
