HAGERSTOWN– Freshman guard Cherise Castello scored a career-high 18 points Wednesday night to lead Chesapeake College to a 104-37 women's basketball victory over host Hagerstown Community College, handing the Hawks their fifth straight loss.

Janice Ladson (15 points, six assists), Natori Nesbit (13 points, three assists), Chantelle Gross (10 points, two assists), and Chandni Taylor (nine points, three assists) combined with Castello to lead a balanced offensive attack.

Castello's 18-point performance came after scoring just three points in 19 minutes of action spread over the season's first six games.

Chesapeake outscored Hagerstown, 50-13, in the first half, allowing just four points in the opening quarter.  Hagerstown's only productive quarter was the third, where the Hawks managed 16 points.

Chesapeake finished with 14 steals – including thefts by nine of the 11 Skipjacks – to disrupt the Hagerstown offense.  The Skipjacks used the win to improve to 5-2 overall, 3-1 in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.

Deondria Wimber (five rebounds, two assists) added eight points for the Skipjacks while Shahra Madison (team-high 12 rebounds) and Emily Truitt (six rebounds, three assists) contributed seven points each.  Reeva Jackson (three points), and Kristian Saunders (six points) played key roles on the boards with 11 and eight rebounds, respectively.

Joneisha Cane (15 points) and Hanna Loudin (14 points) were the players to reach double figures for the winless Hawks (0-5, 0-3).
