Skipjacks take charge early in 89-point win over Howard

WYE MILLS – Sophomore guard Janice Ladson scored a game-high 27 points, dished out six assists and came up with seven steals Friday night as the Chesapeake College women's basketball team overwhelmed Howard Community College, 126-37.

Five other Skipjacks joined Ladson in double figures as Chesapeake opened the game with a 20-0 run and built a 61-16 lead by halftime while coming up with 20 first-half steals.  Shahra Madison (21 points, 14 rebounds, six steals, four blocks) and Emily Truitt (18 points, five assists, eight steals) also had big nights offensively and defensively for the Skipjacks, who improved to 4-1 in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.

Deondria Wimber (13 points, four assists, five rebounds), Natori Nesbit (12 points), and Kristian Saunders (10 points, 13 rebounds) also hit double figures while Chandni Taylor (nine points, eight rebounds) and Maya Robinson (eight points, six assists) just missed double digits.

Maranda Robinson scored 16 points and Sabreen Muslin added 11 to pace the winless Dragons, who fell to 0-4 both in the conference and overall.

The Skipjacks fell to 6-3 overall on Saturday with a 101-64 loss to ASA in Baltimore City Community College's Legends Classic.  The Skipjacks were scheduled to play Monroe Community College Sunday in their second Legends Classic contest.

Chantelle Gross (11 rebounds) and Madison (six rebounds) each scored 14 points to pace Chesapeake against ASA.  Ladson was the third Skipjack in double figures with 11 points.

Alexia Douglas scored a game-high 27 points for ASA, followed by 21 points each from Adriana Cordoba and Nyasia Franklin.

The Skipjacks return to conference play Tuesday at 5 p.m. against visiting CCBC-Dundalk.
