By BENJAMIN BRUNNER

LARGO – Freshman guard Emily Truitt scored a season-high 19 points, but the Chesapeake College women's basketball team came up short in the last few minutes against host Prince George's Community College in a 65-61 loss to kick off the 2017 portion of their schedule.

Chesapeake went on an 11-0 run early in the first quarter, but ball control issues plagued the team throughout the game and PG rallied for a 29-28 lead at halftime.  The game stayed close until the end, with the Skipjacks actually leading late into the fourth quarter, but Asisha Green's two late layups helped the Owls pull out the win.

Janice Ladson led the offensive charge for Chesapeake with 23 points, while Reeva Jackson (five points, 15 rebounds) and Shahra Madison (nine points, 12 rebounds) each had double-digit rebounding efforts.  Truitt had three treys and three steals.

Cherise Castello (three points), Natori Nesbit (six rebounds, three assists), and Deondria Wimber (two points, three assists) helped Chesapeake keep the game close.

Chesapeake (8-6 overall, 4-3 league) hosts Frederick Community College Wednesday at 5 p.m.  PG improved to 5-7, 2-2.

The Skipjacks (8-6 overall, 4-3 conference) will host Frederick Community College in a Division II .
