Ladson dominates in win at Anne Arundel

ARNOLD –  Janice Ladson led the offensive charge with 25 points on Saturday afternoon, as the Chesapeake College women's basketball team won their fourth-straight at Anne Arundel Community College, 89-57.

The Skipjacks improved to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in Maryland JuCo play.

The Skipjacks' offense blitzed Anne Arundel 16-3 in the first quarter. Emily Truitt (20 points, 4 rebounds) shot three 3-pointers in the second quarter alone. Chantelle Gross (16 points, 9 rebounds) and Ladson (25 points, 6 assists) recorded double figures in the first half. The Skipjacks outscored the 'Hawks 26-16 to finish the half, leading 42-19.

Coach Gwen Barnes credited the first half domination to, "Defense. We put Deondria Wimber on one of their toughest players. She did a remarkable job".

Emily Truitt added three more shots from deep in the third, while Shahra Madison (21 points, 19 rebounds) recorded her third-straight double-double.

Alexxis Evans led the Riverhawks offense with 18 points, while Megan Young and Madison Cowan  scored 11 points each, joining Evans in double figures. This was the fourth straight loss for Anne Arundel, who fell to 6-14, 3-7.

Chesapeake has three regular season games remaining until tournament season starts. "We've got to work even harder. In tournaments, anything can happen" said Coach Barnes. "I don't want the players to become lax. We have to work twice as hard".

The Skipjacks host Hartford Community College at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
