'Jacks topple Potomac St.

KEYSER, W. Va. –  Chesapeake College blitzed the Potomac State defense on a Saturday afternoon in a 77-39 road win. Shahra Madison dominated on both sides of the ball with 20 points and 29 rebounds, resulting in her sixth straight double-double.

The first quarter started with a strong 27-14 run by the Skipjacks, including a three from deep by Chantelle Gross (19 points) and three field goals by Janice Ladson (13 points). The offensive charge continued in the second quarter, where Chesapeake blitzed Potomac 16-3. Only Rayona Chapman (6 points) and Kenzie Christman (10 points) scored for Potomac in the second quarter. Emily Truitt (15 points) shot a late three-pointer, giving Chesapeake a 43-17 halftime lead.

The second half began with a three-pointer from Ny'zhea Greene (12 points) of Potomac St., which contributed to a strong 21-12 run in the third quarter. Chesapeake closed out the game with a close 13-12 run, resulting in a 77-39 win.

"We have some things we have to work on" , said Coach Gwen Barnes. "We have to work on our defense. We just have to stay focused".

The Skipjacks (14-7, 10-4) will compete in the Maryland Junior Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday at 6 p.m., at Chesapeake College.
