Lady Skipjacks Sweep the Hawks

WYE MILLS, MD - The Chesapeake women's basketball team took the court of Skipjack Arena for their final home game for the remainder of 2021 on December 15th, taking on the Hagerstown Hawks at 5 PM. In the end, the Skipjack's finished out the 2021 year with a win, earning a final result of 73-43.

Less than 1:00 minute into the game, Chesapeake's #5 Azayah Garrison made a purposeful pass to teammate #21 Nathalie Arroyave for the very first 2 points of the game to set the tone. Skipjack's #15 Taiylor Bussey was the point leader of the quarter earning 6 points in the first 10:00. At the end of Q1 the score stood at 12-24, Chesapeake.

By the end of the 2nd quarter, going into the half, the score update remained in the Skipjacks favor at 46-23. Chesapeake's #23 Jayla Irvin stepped it up on the scoreboard adding her own addition of 8 points in the quarter. #21 Arroyave wasn't far behind with 6 of her own. Defensive standouts of the first half of the evening were #30 Tatiana Holmes, as well as #10 Deliayh Mohomed.

The 2nd half was a continuation of the Skipjack's first with a powerful front portrayed out on the court. On the defensive end, #20 La'Niya Washington of Chesapeake proved to be a core player throughout the 3rd quarter.

The ladies of Chesapeake basketball will compete in the Montgomery College Holiday Tournament on Saturday, December 18th. They will be taking on Union County College at a scheduled game time of 1:00 PM.
