Lady Skipjacks Dominant In 86-59 Win Over Virginia Peninsula

After a weekend away in Florida for a pair of away games for the Chesapeake College women's basketball team, the Lady Skipjacks returned home to end the first half of their season on a high note with an 86-59 victory over Virginia Peninsula Community College.

The Skipjacks were neck and neck with the Gators after period one, knotted up at 21 each, before Chesapeake began to distance themselves in the second to take a 46-31 lead into the half. Aniya Jones already had a double-double at the break with 12 points and 12 rebounds while also dishing out 6 assists.

Chesapeake outpaced the Gators even more as they outscored Virginia Peninsula 25-11 in the third before the Gators topped the Skipjacks in the final ten-minute frame, 17-15 as Chesapeake secured the 27-point victory. Four of the five Skipjacks starts scored in double-figures but it was Da'Myni Johnson who came off the  bench for Chesapeake, who led the team in scoring after  finishing with 16 points.

The Skipjacks win marked the first home win for the Skipjacks since November 29th against Frederick and improves the squad to 7-5 before their 2024 portion begins which kicks off on Wednesday, January 10th at Union County College.
