
Cougars Fall 86-76 Despite Strong Performances at Chesapeake
The Frederick CC Cougars women's basketball team experienced their third consecutive defeat, succumbing to the Chesapeake College Skipjacks with a final score of 86-75 in a Wednesday evening matchup on the road.
The Cougars got off to a great start, controlling the tempo of the game and running their offense through the first half. FCC trailed by as many as four at one point but fought back to finish the first quarter up by one point. The Cougars continued running their pace and were leading by as many as five points and then be trailing by as many of three points in the second quarter to take a two point lead into halftime, 45-43.
The game would continue to go back and forth between both teams, but the Cougars held a narrow one-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter at 62-61. The Skipjacks would tie the game at 66 with 7:33 left to play and take a slight lead for the next three minutes. Frederick freshman Alaysia Jemmott leveled the score at 73-73 with a crucial jumper in the paint at the 4:11 mark. Despite the valiant effort, the Skipjacks turned up the pressure, closing out the game on a 13-2 run.
Paige Smith scored a team-high 27 points for the Cougars, shooting 50% from the field, 5 for 9 from deep, and 6 for 6 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Makayla Wright contributed 25 points, boasting a 55% field goal percentage and matching Smith's performance from deep. Jemmott chipped in with 8 points, five rebounds, a steal, and an assist.
Next up: The Cougars will hit the road again, traveling to face the Community College of Beaver County Titans on Saturday, December 2, at 1 pm.
