Baseball's Comeback Bid Falls Short at Chesapeake

WYE MILLS, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team rallied from an eight-run deficit at Chesapeake College Tuesday, but the comeback bid fell short in a 13-9 loss to the Skipjacks. Ian Adams went 3-for-5 with two RBI in the nine-inning single game.

Chesapeake tagged AACC starter Tripp Templeton for five runs in the first inning on six hits and an error. The Skipjacks added another run on an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth before taking an 8-0 lead with two runs in the fourth.

Adams drove in a run in the fifth and AACC had a romp in the sixth scoring seven runs on four hits, including four coming across with two outs.

The Skipjacks retook the lead, 9-8, in the bottom of the frame on a sac fly, but the Riverhawks tied it up again in the seventh, taking advantage of a passed ball to score.

A two-run single in the bottom of the seventh put Chesapeake ahead for good, and the Skipjacks added another run in the eighth before retiring the Riverhawks in order in the ninth.

Reliever Skylar Kaplan (0-1) took the loss for AACC, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one in the seventh. Chis Paugh and Preston Moltz both pitched two relief innings, and Gavin Umphries closed out the game. The AACC battery combined for eight strikeouts in the game.

The Riverhawks are back in action on Saturday, April 10th in a 12 pm doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville.
