Close, but no cigar

The Lions lost both games of the doubleheader on Saturday against Chesapeake College Skipjacks 6-1 and 8-7.

Game one the Lions could not bring anyone home, They had the base runners but were unable to put more than one run on the board. In the top of the first Jake Brack and Matt Fino both singled and both were left on base. Jared Jackson and Brack both drew walks in the top of the 3rd but a double play ball got Chesapeake out of the inning. The Lions lone run came in the top of the 4th when Mike Newsome led off with a double, was moved to third by a ground ball hit by Doyle McNew and brought home from a Ben Hall single. In the top of the 6th Fino led off with a walk and Newsome singled with no outs and the Lions were unable to produce any runs.

Game two started off with lead off walk from Chaney Skeans. Jackson then hit a bunt single to get two men on with no outs. A double steal moved them both over and a ground ball to the first basemen scored Skeans to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st.

After two singles followed by two fielder's choice Kyle Hansel was on third and Kendall Goodwin on first with two outs. Hansel and Goodwin both steal and the catcher throws the ball to center field allowing Hansel to score and Goodwin to advance to third. Then the center fielder makes an error and Goodwin scores to put the Lions up 3-0 in the top of the second. In the bottom half the Skipjacks took the lead 5-3.

In the top of the third the Lions walked the bases loaded and a hit by pitch scored a run. In the bottom of the third the Skipjacks got a run of their own putting the score at 6-4 Skipjacks lead. The Skipjacks extended their lead in the fourth 8-4.

Two singles in the top of the 6th were able to add a run for the Lions. Then in the 7th the Lions were able to score two runs making it 8-7 but left two men on with one out.
